The College of the Arts Dean’s Office seeks a Web Developer II. Reporting to the Lead Web Developer and Manager, this position is responsible for the maintenance and development of complex PHP-based applications and websites across the College of the Arts and all of its Schools, Centers and Institutes. Responsibilities: Content Management System Administration: Serves as the initial contact and liaison with the lead web developer (and supervisor) for all client requests for web features and content updates. Analyzes those requests and other user needs to determine technical requirements. Identifies problems uncovered by testing or customer feedback, and corrects problems or refers problems to appropriate personnel for correction.

Application Development: Serves as the initial contact and liaison with the lead web developer (and supervisor) for all client application development requests. Analyzes those needs to determine technical requirements. In consultation with supervisor, defines the scope of the project and plans the development process. Designs, builds, and/or maintains websites and web applications, using PHP and JavaScript. Confers with management and/or development teams to prioritize needs, resolves conflicts, develops functional criteria, or chooses appropriate solutions. Analyzes and evaluates code to ensure it is valid, is properly structured, is secure, meets industry standards and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systems. Prototypes web applications. Develops and validates test routines and schedules to ensure that test cases mimic external interfaces and address all browser and device types.

Professional Development & Documentation: Maintains understanding of current web technologies or programming practices through continuing education, reading, or participation in professional conferences, workshops, or groups. Migrates Systems when needed

Work Location: The duties of this position allow for 100% remote work. No physical presence on campus is required, although a hybrid campus/remote schedule is negotiable.

Work Schedule: This is an exempt position (non-hourly). Accomplishment of duties, per supervisor expectation, can be completed during the times agreed upon by the supervisor and employee, which are negotiable.

EXPECTED SALARY:

$64,300

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience, or an associate’s degree and four years of appropriate experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Fundamental understanding of HTML, CSS, version control, and SQL

Advanced PHP (5.X and 7.X)

  • Security and Hardening

  • Performance Optimization

  • Debugging

  • Design Principles and Patterns (e.g. OOP, Functional Programming, Factory Method, MVC)

Working knowledge of JavaScript

  • ES5

  • jQuery

  • Knowledge of one framework (e.g. React, Vue, Angular), TypeScript, or ES6+ is good, but not required

Basic understanding of web accessibility/a11y, WCAG 2.X, Section 508 Compliance

Familiarity with content management systems (e.g. ProcessWire, WordPress, TerminalFour)

What is your Interview process like?

First Round Interview will be held via Zoom with the hiring committee, Q & A format. There is a non-compulsory take home test should the candidate proceed to the Second Round.
