Eclipse Media is a web development company based in Portland, Oregon. Since 2008, we’ve been developing and maintaining websites and custom web solutions for creative agencies, small businesses, startups, and nonprofits. We are a small team who has developed long-term and trusting relationships with our clients and agency partners who appreciate our competent and friendly service. We believe our team members are our biggest asset, and strive to maintain a fun, friendly and productive working environment that values and supports the unique skills and perspectives that we bring to the company as individuals.

Job Description

We are looking for a skilled web developer to join our team to assist primarily with front-end tasks (theming, site building, UX, occasional design / wireframing). However, as we are a fairly small / adaptable team, the ideal candidate will have some familiarity with a broad spectrum of development tasks including information architecture, client communication, and will occasionally lead development efforts on smaller projects from start to finish.

Web Platform Experience

We maintain and support a wide variety of projects, primarily built with Wordpress and Drupal (both 7 and 8) and are routinely starting new projects of both types. The ideal candidate will have extensive Wordpress experience and a working familiarity with Drupal and its theme layer. Experience with React and Gatsby / other static-site generators is desired but not required.

Design Skills

For larger projects we tend to collaborate with design agencies who work with the client to generate wireframes / mock-ups / brand collateral / style guides which we then translate to working code. For smaller projects, we may use client-submitted examples and third-party designs as inspiration and develop mockups / wireframes in-house. The ideal candidate considers themselves primarily to be a developer but is comfortable with doing this “light” design work both for page layouts and individual components, and presenting / discussing these designs with clients.

Growth Potential

The right candidate will have a desire to make decisions / develop our approach to front-end development and UX in a way that will have a lasting impact on future projects and the company as a whole. Our collaborative processes are always evolving, and as we grow as a company there is leadership potential in this area.

Work Hours and Benefits

This is a full-time position operating on standard business hours, but with the flexibility to adjust your schedule to accommodate when needed (especially during COVID). This position is traditionally an in-office position, although currently everyone is working from home. We offer competitive benefits including health insurance, company-contributed retirement, vacation, and profit sharing. Compensation depends on experience.
