Procurated is a ratings and reviews platform for the public sector. We work hard to make public sector procurement more efficient, and in turn, improve the lives of the citizens served.

We have worked hard to create an environment online and a workplace (whether in person or remotely) where everyone is set up for success. We are extremely proud of the platform and team we have built so far. We work hard, think big, and solve serious problems but don’t take ourselves too seriously.

The Opportunity:

At Procurated, the engineering team is responsible for building and maintaining our ratings and reviews platform. Within the platform, users can search for suppliers, rate and review those they’ve worked with, read reviews written by other users, message other users directly, and submit requests for supplier reviews from other users.

The team embraces an experiment-driven, outcome-oriented approach. That means that design, product, and development work collaboratively to build products and features that solve customer problems. Within this dynamic, Software Engineers should find ways to drive technological innovation, challenge conventions, and think beyond the immediate solution.

The ideal candidate thrives in an early-stage environment where systems and processes are still being developed. They embrace unknowns, remain flexible, enjoy being part of a team that’s growing quickly, and working on a product that’s ever evolving.

What you might do on any given day:

  • Develop technical solutions for real user needs and business objectives.

  • Break out user stories into clear technical tasks.

  • Write code that is straightforward, clean and follows obvious object-oriented principals.

  • Work closely with product management and design in a cross-functional team covering all areas of our product.

  • Have a virtual lunch with coworkers to learn about a part of the business you might not be involved in.

  • Implement and test features through an Agile software development lifecycle.

  • Review your teammate’s code.

  • Write an automated unit test or fix a critical production bug.

  • Create a README file in Github or deploy your new feature in Heroku.

About you:

  • You live anywhere in the US (read about our remote work environment here)

  • You have at least 3 years of software development experience

  • You have experience with Ruby on Rails

  • You have experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

  • You have experience with SQL databases

  • You have experience creating and integrating with JSON REST APIs

  • You have experience with version control using Git

  • You have very strong critical thinking and analysis skills.

  • You’re a creative analytical thinker, you don’t just want to write code, you want to know why things are the way they are and how they can improve

  • You have experience working in an Agile environment

  • You are experienced in setting and executing on a product backlog, balancing innovation, maintenance and support

  • You are open to hearing and able to incorporate multiple creative perspectives

Things you might have done before joining the team:

  • Worked with government, a tech-company, or in a start-up environment

  • Used React, Node, Heroku, Postgres, Redis, ElasticSearch, the HubSpot API, or Mandrill

  • Spent time working on nascent applications, search, user-generated content, database design/optimization, or taxonomy

  • Figured out how to solve a daily problem in an innovative way

How we assess our candidates:

All candidates will be assessed using the qualifications that we have outlined on this job description. We are a ratings and reviews company, so scoring and consistency is extremely important to us. When you apply, we want you to honestly assess your strengths that you bring to the role and the things that you might grow into with time.

Procurated believes that diversity is critical to our success in delivering great workplace experiences and is committed to creating an inclusive, mutually respectful environment which celebrates diversity of our people. We seek to hire on the basis of merit, competence, performance, and business needs. We’re looking for five-star candidates and can’t wait to bring them onto our team!

The Procurated Story:

Founded in 2019, Procurated provides a way for state and local government, educational, healthcare and non-profit purchasers to write reviews of suppliers they have worked with. These reviews help other procurement professionals make more informed decisions when selecting their next supplier. We work closely with suppliers to help them understand the needs of the public sector and improve performance. In serving two sides of the marketplace, we help to simplify and streamline procurement.

Procurated is an early-stage startup backed financially by Limerick Hill LLC and MayFive Holdings, Inc. The company’s founder and CEO served as Deputy Secretary for Procurement of the Pennsylvania Department of General Services and brings valuable experience having sat in the chair of a public procurement professional.

What efforts are you making in terms of increasing diversity & inclusion within your company?

Procurated places a huge emphasis on diversity, inclusion, and belonging as we've had a diverse team from the start (we're under 20 people currently) and want to make sure we continue those efforts in the future. It is extremely important to us. Here's a great post about what it's like to be an Engineer at Procurated.
