We are seeking an ambitious software engineer with strong frontend experience building pixel perfect designs and ideally with a general understanding of Laravel and Vue.js to join our small engineering team at Helix and help shape our product, engineering culture, and team. This high-impact role will work closely with the whole digital team in implementing new design elements and building out new features. This is a full-time remote position, and this person will join our remote engineering team.

Role and Responsibilities:

This is an exciting time to join the Helix Engineering Team, as we experience rapid growth and expansion. Our engineering team is still quite small and you will play a significant role in shaping our platform.

  • Implement responsible web design principles to ensure that our company website renders well across multiple devices

  • Assist in the development of applications and features that will be put on the website and in internal functions as well

  • Write reliable, modular, testable code

  • Provide thoughtful feedback on code reviews and be willing to receive constructive feedback on your own code

  • Communicate clearly and effectively with non-technical stakeholders to help them achieve their goals

  • Take ownership of projects/features and fill in gaps in product as needed

Requirements

Background and Experience:

  • Vue.js — Experience working with Vue.js for 1+ year.

  • Laravel — Experience working with Laravel for 1-2+ years.

  • PHP — Experience working with PHP 7.0+.

  • Git — Basics and workflows.

  • JavaScript — Solid understanding of basic JavaScript.

  • Ability to prioritize coding tasks and ship code quickly and regularly.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in any of the following:

  • Shopify — Experience working with Shopify and their APIs.

  • MySQL — Basic understanding of query optimization.

  • Linux — Know the basics of navigation around via the command line.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Have always had a passion to create stuff.

What is your Interview process like?

A quick phone interview, then a practical take home test to build a single frontend page, which shouldn't take more 4 hours to complete and candidate will have a week to complete. After that an interview we 4 team members of 30 minutes duration each, back to back. And finally a interview with the director of software engineering. No whiteboard programming ever required throughout the interview process.
