What is your Interview process like?

A quick phone interview, then a practical take home test to build a single frontend page, which shouldn't take more 4 hours to complete and candidate will have a week to complete. After that an interview we 4 team members of 30 minutes duration each, back to back. And finally a interview with the director of software engineering. No whiteboard programming ever required throughout the interview process.

What efforts are you making in terms of increasing diversity & inclusion within your company?

At Helix we seek to build a team that is diverse in backgrounds, skills, and what you brind to the table. We still have ways to go, but we are implementing actionable changes. Our most recent action was to form an active DEI committee.

Recruit outside of our personal networks and post job opening on multiple and diverse job boards.

Set clear and honest expectation setting during interviewing and prompt follow-through.

Using scorecards for interviewing to root out bias.

Team interviewing at the last stage with future colleagues to discuss impressions and root out bias.

Fostering a culture that has a collaborative and growth-mindset so that difficult conversations are easier to address and are not tied to fear of retributive action.

Creating space within projects and processes to receive and offer feedback with healthy practices: specific examples, honest and kind reflection, and actionable takeaways.

Donating, and matching employee donations, to local and national non-profits that support diversity in tech on a recurring, long-term, annual basis.
