Paperchain is a tailored instant-pay solution to fund the next generation of creators.

Paperchain is a tailored instant-pay solution to fund the next generation of creators. With Paperchain, you can see and access your streaming revenue as you earn it. In real time. Our app connects to the API feeds of Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music and many others, aggregating and pricing media streaming data and making the stream revenue available instantly to creators. We've paid out $500K to music companies and creators so far, and are rapidly expanding our customer base.

We're currently raising our seed round and are capitalized from our $900K pre-seed round supported by Techstars, Our Innovation Fund as well as founders, executives and investors from The Orchard, Live Nation, Zip.co, Mute Records, Live Nation, Deutsche Bank, and Goldman Sachs.

If you're interested in building the creator payments app for streaming media, come join us!

Important

College education is not a prerequisite. If you did go to college, we place no weight on the college you attended. We strongly encourage women, non-cisgender and people from non-white European ancestries to apply. We only ask for relevant expertise and drive.

Role overview

We're looking for a full-time Software Engineer (Full Stack - UI/UX) to join our team of 5.

As one of our first few engineering hires, you'll be an essential part of the company's growth (and will be compensated with salary + equity). You will be shipping code everyday to a rapidly growing customer base.

Why you should join

  1. We're changing the way streaming platforms compensate creators. It's a massive paradigm shift in expectations and infrastructure that will lead lead to new categories of fintech and media products.
  2. Be an early employee at a high potential startup. You'll have profound impact within the company. You'll be directly responsible for the team's successes, and will reap the benefits that come along with it.
  3. Work on a product that benefits the world. If there's no equitable access to finance, the creative class will be dominated only by those already with wealth. And that would fucking suck.
  4. You'll join a close-knit team of smart, talented, and motivated individuals from varied parts of the world (Australia, India, Canada, US) with a wealth of diverse experiences to keep the team interesting.

We're looking for someone

  1. Who's enthusiastic about our product: We want want you to love this product as much as we do and bring that enthusiasm to your work and ideas.
  2. Who can get things done: We care about high-quality code but not if that involves sacrificing speed. Code that works well enough and is maintainable is more important than it working perfectly. We've used weekly sprints to plan our work so the environment is pretty fast-paced.
  3. With prior software engineering experience:

    1. Full stack experience is preferred, as you'll be writing scalable and maintainable components in VueJS, & Nuxt codebase from the get-go.
    2. Able to work with or willing to learn a bit of back-end systems and SQL. Some back-end experience or working knowledge is preferred. (We use Go, Google Cloud Platform, Postgres)
    3. You've built, launched and maintained customer-facing API products, as well as developing integrations with third party SSO/Oauth applications (Google, Apple)
    4. Ideally, you'll have worked at a high growth startup before and understand the release cadence needed to succeed.
  4. With an eye for design: There's a lot of talk about 'designers who can code' yet surprisingly little about 'coders who can design'. Whilst you won't need to design anything per se, you'll need to be able to critique designs and be able to use your design instinct for edge cases.

What you'll be working on

You'll walk in at Paperchain and immediately start contributing to three key deliverables:

  • OAuth API integrations to make it easier for our customers to connect their data
  • UI/UX updates to our web app
  • Paperchain mobile app

What is your Interview process like?

The first interview will be a non-technical interview. We believe it's more important for you to get pitched on the "why" of the company and learn more about the team, rather than diving straight into technical specifics. And it's an opportunity for us to learn more about you as an individual as well.

After the first interview, we'll assign a small task as a test (depending on time requirements, this may be paid) that's designed to help us understand your approach to product building and the connection between product front-end, product back-end and our customer.

What efforts are you making in terms of increasing diversity & inclusion within your company?

One of our goals with Paperchain is to build a diverse company. What does this mean?

We aspire to embody this description on diversity hiring by Ideal:

Diversity hiring is hiring based on merit with special care taken to ensure procedures are free from biases related to a candidate’s age, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and other personal characteristics that are unrelated to their job performance

What that last line means is that our commitment to diversity does not end once a person joins team. It's on all of us to ensure we have a work environment that is comfortable and open to everybody.

While building a startup often means taking the fastest check, we've been thoughtful about who we take money from and who has equity in our business, ensuring our customers can see themselves not only in our team, but in our investors and advisors.
