We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to contribute deeply to the development of our products and services. Our next designer will be responsible for collaborating closely across our engineering, learner experience, and product management teams to deliver world class products.

NextStep is transforming the future of work and solving a piece of the caregiver shortage crisis with our innovative Certified Nursing Assistant training and job placement platform. We combine bite-sized mobile learning with in person practice labs to ensure learner preparedness. NextStep’s CNA training and guaranteed job placement is offered free to learners. Costs are covered by our employer partners who simplify their CNA recruitment using our pipeline of graduates, certified for skill and culture fit through scientifically-based assessments. In the first 90 Days:

  • You’ll lead design scoping of a new learner content management system

  • Analyze customer, business, and product requirements with our PM team to uncover blockers to learner progress and internal user needs

  • Develop research plans, wireframes, prototypes, and design layouts to ensure a human centered design focus

  • Document product user experience and process flows, write user stories, and define acceptance criteria with our engineering team for the MVP & future releases

Part of Your Day to Day, Everyday

  • Share design knowledge and understanding with teammates & the organization

  • Conduct user research to generate insights or validate designs

  • Collaborate with team members and product owners across disciplines

  • Plan and execute smaller project as they flexibly fit into major project work

  • Balance quality, productivity, safety and morale to achieve results for our learners

  • Learn new skills to further your expertise - we’re building a learning platform and extend that mission internally

  • Give and receive feedback as part of a candid team that thrives on inclusion and honesty.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a design related field, or equivalent working experience

  • 5+ years of professional experience in UX or product design

  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates thoughtful problem solving & your design process

  • Strong prototyping and presentation skills

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and general practices

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work professionally with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community

  • Ability to scope, plan, and document design efforts

  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

What is your Interview process like?

Our interview process starts with a phone screen with one of the designers on the team. it will be 45-60 minutes, where you’ll be asked to share a project in depth from your portfolio. Please be prepared to talk though your design decisions, and process.

Once past the phone interview you will be invited to an in person interview with the team in Seattle. The day will start with a portfolio presentation to the interview panel (6-8 people). Please have at least two projects to present to the team.

Following the presentation, you’ll have three break out interviews with different members of the team for about an hour each.
