Skillcrush is on the hunt for a Head of Career Counseling to join our team! This is a full-time, mid-career role for someone with experience in career support and excellent communication and interpersonal skills who’s excited to build a dedicated career counseling arm of Skillcrush to help our students achieve their career goals.

Currently, our instructors offer students career counseling through small-group and 1:1 career counseling sessions. They also review students’ resumes, cover emails, and LinkedIn profiles, and answer career questions via email and in our Slack student community.

As our Head of Career Counseling, it’ll be your job to revisit these existing processes to rebuild or refine them as needed to monitor and improve Skillcrush students’ career outcomes, working in coordination with key stakeholders on other teams.

You are a good fit for this role if you have experience in recruiting, career coaching, or career counseling and are passionate about helping students from underrepresented backgrounds find meaningful work in the tech industry. You should be an outstanding communicator who is also excellent at motivating and supporting people in achieving their career goals, from critiquing resumes and cover emails to developing the overall programs and processes needed to help students at Skillcrush improve their success in landing jobs or going freelance.

The ideal candidate will have strong know-how about job search trends and techniques and be a well-organized, results-driven self-starter who loves constantly improving and can take a project from idea to implementation working both on your own and with others from all parts of the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and overseeing the career counseling processes and programs at Skillcrush to optimize students’ career outcomes

  • Acting as subject matter expert and helping develop and deliver career-related content, curriculum, webinars, etc

  • Tracking and reporting students’ participation in career counseling activities and using the data to improve their career results

  • Coordinating the collection of and reporting on student outcomes and successes to share internally and externally

  • Training, supporting, and overseeing instructors in their career counseling work with students

  • Staying up-to-date on job opportunities and hiring trends in tech and on Skillcrush courses to best help students set and achieve their career goals

  • Develop strategic relationships and partnerships with hiring managers that can guide and/or hire students.

  • Assessing the feasibility of and, possibly, developing and executing plans to expand Skillcrush’s career counseling processes and programs

Requirements:

  • Experience in recruiting, career coaching, or career counseling

  • Excellent knowledge of effective job search strategies

  • Outstanding written and spoken communication and interpersonal skills

  • Driven to improve processes and programs

  • Collaborates well across teams and with team members of various skill sets and levels

  • Takes direction well but works independently displaying good judgement and initiative

  • Organized and able to meet deadlines on time and within budget

  • Ability to work mainly within U.S. office hours

Bonuses:

  • Experience in recruiting, career coaching, or career counseling for Black, Indigenous, and other people of color and, in particular, women

  • Experience working with students at a tech bootcamp or other non-traditionally educated students, particularly in job placement

  • Familiarity with the tech industry and its recruiting and hiring trends

  • Experience managing people, especially other career counselors

  • Passion for online education, the tech industry, and/or empowering women

  • Experience working remotely

Salary Range:

At Skillcrush, we use a set of transparent salary tiers to level all roles.

The salary range for this role $68k-$78k, commensurate with skills and experience.

What is your Interview process like?

Application (7 general questions + resume);

1st interview with HR manager via 30-minute video call;

At-home exercises (4-5 job-specific questions to find out more about skills and ways candidate might approach the work; unpaid; about 1-2 hours needed to complete);

2nd interview with supervisor & HR director via 1-hour video call;

If needed - At-home test project (similar to work to be done in the role; paid; about 6-8 hours needed to complete) to be presented in 3rd interview with supervisor, HR director, and CEO via 1-hour video call
