Wasting less, made easy.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Lead Product Designer

Ridwell is a service that inspires people to create a future without waste. Today, we make it easy to reuse and recycle more by identifying recyclable and reusable items that the city doesn't collect, picking them up from our customers' doorsteps, and matching them with local partners that can use them sustainably. Our future plans go much further and include making zero waste a reality for millions.

We are a social purpose corp, meaning sustainability is not just a company value - it's fundamental to the purpose and interests of our company. Our mission is to empower communities to waste less, and every success our team celebrates means more waste saved from the landfill, less clutter in our customer’s homes, and more valuable donations in the hands of local non-profits.

We’re funded and growing quickly and can't wait to add to our team. We offer a strong benefits package, a flexible work and vacation schedule, and a team invested in the personal growth of its employees. This is a unique opportunity to get in at the beginning and help build something special!

Our working culture

  • Obsession with the member experience Our member is the hero on a journey to waste less.
  • We approach problems and opportunities with curiosity and pragmatism, and we treat each other with empathy and respect. We are resourceful - there is no problem we can't find a solution for.
  • Collaborative attitude There is no "turf" to protect and our roles are fluid based on our strengths, interests, and company needs.

How to succeed in this role

As the lead product designer, you are tasked with building our product design practice with an eye to scale. You will own the product experience, championing the voice of our users: internal and external. You will not only execute on great product experiences, but also lead design studios and collaborative exercises to uncover the needs of product owners and users alike.

  • Build out a best-in-class product design team
  • Work closely within the product team to deliver great experiences
  • Transition seamlessly from strategic product conversations with leaders to tactical deep-dives with engineers.
  • Facilitate design studios and sprints with different functional team members to uncover the best solutions.
  • Translate the Ridwell brand into our product experience: visuals, voice, and attitude.
  • Champion the voice of our users: our members, our drivers, and our internal team when building and designing solutions.
  • Be directly involved in research and analysis of ideas and testing of solutions
  • Lead the product design practice, building the tools and processes to grow an engaged and quality team.
  • Execute on high-quality visual, experience, and interface designs in alignment with our current brand
  • Know when to dive deep into getting the perfect design versus when to get something out the door and learn quickly.
  • Be thoughtful about the future of our experience and keep our members’ goal to waste less as top priority

We're looking for someone with a solid base (e.g., at least 3 years direct experience) in product or UX design. The general skills and experience we are looking for include:

  • Hands-on, scrappy, and proactive: Comfort with ambiguity, willing to take responsibility and ownership, and proven ability to take initiative and easily adapt in a fast-growing environment
  • Appreciation for and connection to the Ridwell mission: Excited by the chance to play a critical role in eliminating unnecessary waste
  • Curiosity, humility, and growth mindset: Views each activity as a chance to learn and improve, focused on outcomes not swimlanes
  • Analytical and data-driven: Comfortable evaluating quantitative and qualitative results of product features
  • Go beneath the surface: A drive to look deeper for purpose and reasons within initial findings and to think critically about conclusions
  • Experience in a wide range of design functions: With a solid foundation in product design, a generalist skill set and desire to be involved throughout the product life cycle
  • Experience collaborating with product owners, leaders, and engineers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills: Demonstrated success collaborating across multiple functional groups and both digitally/in person

About the Role:

This is a full-time position based in the Greater Seattle Area with an option to be remote with cash compensation starting at $80,000. Compensation includes both salary and equity options. Due to business operations, you need to be comfortable working digitally with teams around the country. We follow all local COVID-19 regulations.

Benefits at Ridwell:

We are committed to creating a supportive environment for our employees.

  • Flexible vacation and sick leave policy
  • Comprehensive healthcare benefits including vision and dental
  • Paid parental leave

Ridwell is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. Women, people of color, and LGBTQIA individuals are encouraged to apply.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION

At Ridwell, we focus on accessibility and equity inside and outside of our company. Our mission is to build a future without waste, and to do that, we need to ensure equitable access to the tools, information, and education to waste less as a household and as a community.

For our team, we believe that we are better "with our powers combined". This means actively seeking out and bringing diverse perspectives to the table. We have committed building a team with a priority on diverse backgrounds and have actively made hires in our HR and recruiting functions who specialize in building that into our company culture.

There is always room to grow and we seek out feedback and work with investors and advisors who will push our organization to be better. For underrepresented folk--we have a diverse and passionate team who is making and holding space for everyone and anyone.
