Quick Take: Axios is a growth-stage startup dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning news content in an audience-first format. We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead and manage a team of Axios engineers.

Why it Matters: Our engineering team is a critical component to delivering on our mission to provide the cleanest, smartest, most efficient and trustworthy content and technology to our audience and customers. We are looking for an Engineering Manager with deep domain knowledge of front-end and front-end mobile technologies to help scale our organization, provide management and coaching, and support our teams to deliver against their product roadmaps.

Go Deeper: In this role, you will make an impact to Axios through the following responsibilities:

  • Coach, mentor, and grow Axios engineers

  • Provide regular, timely, and candid feedback, as well as participate in monthly career check-ins, performance evaluations, and advancement reviews

  • Play a lead role in delivering against team personal and team OKRs

  • Ensure the psychological safety of Axios staff

  • Drive the tech organization forward by exploring potential technology solutions, keeping up-to-date on trends and security vulnerabilities, and propose ways to evolve our platform and products

  • Establish, evangelize, and reinforce best practices and patterns

  • Serve as a leader in developing and reviewing architectural and technical decisions

  • Own our front-end chapter and look for ways to keep engineers engaged, learning, and excited

The Details: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit, high EQ, and passion for Axios’ mission, as well as have the following skills:

  • Experience leading and managing a cross-functional team of engineers in a fast-paced and high-growth environment

  • Deep, current technical knowledge with software development, architecture, data design and implementation

  • Proven track record of creating pragmatic, maintainable systems, using industry-recognized best practices

  • Experience shipping, maintaining, and evolving highly-utilized production products

  • Deep experience applying agile practices to streamline team delivery and output

  • Experience with frontend technologies, specifically React and React Native

  • A passion for your craft, a desire to continue to learn and grow, and dedication to the growth and development of others
