Our mission is to make payments safer and easier for everyone. We started with a consumer product that helps people spend more safely using virtual payment cards. Then we launched a simple, modern API to make our payment and card issuing infrastructure available to other startups, fintechs, and brands. Today, that infrastructure powers hundreds of millions of dollars in payments for consumers and some of the most innovative companies in the world.

As an early member of the team, you will make a significant impact on both the product and culture. You'll have the chance to work on a multitude of interesting challenges across card processing, API architecture, fraud and abuse detection, scaling, and new product development.

About the role

As a senior backend engineer at Lithic, you should be just as comfortable working with Javascript callbacks as you are with multiprocessing in python, as well as wearing the occasional devOps hat. Depending on your interests, you'll have the opportunity to work on a variety of areas and languages, including:

  • Improving our fraud modeling and ML classifiers that detect anomalous behavior and prevent fraud
  • Updates to our real-time transaction processing engine with millisecond response times
  • New features for both the hundreds of thousands of consumers using our product and the hundreds of businesses using our API
  • Building out growth hooks, A/B testing and supporting growth and retention efforts

About you:

  • 4+ years of experience shipping code in a production environment
  • Proficiency in at least one language - we work in Javascript / Python / C++ / Java / SQL, but care much more general engineering skill than knowledge of a particular language or framework.
  • An understanding of the balance between perfection and shipping quickly
  • Awareness that code is written as much for humans to read and maintain as it is for machines to interpret
  • Ownership of the features from start to finish
  • Understanding of algorithms, systems, and design

Our interview process consists of 3 parts in total.

1. Lithic Intro / Getting to Know You (HR)

  • The first part of our interview process is a 15-30 minute call over Google Meet or Zoom with a member of our Talent Acquisition team.
  • As part of this interview, we will discuss Lithic as a company, learn more about what you've been working on over the past few years, ask you about what interests you/what you're looking for, and discuss availability as well as giving you more detail into what to expect in the interview process.

2. Technical Interview (Engineer)

  • This is an interview done over Google Meet in which you work with a senior engineer on the team to complete a coding challenge.
  • You'll write and test a function solving a problem given by the interviewer. You're able to use resources you'd normally use when coding.
  • You'll be asked questions about your past projects and experiences, work through a few pair programming questions, and have time to ask questions of your own

3. Virtual Onsite / Final Round (Company-Wide)

  • The final part of our interview process is designed for you to meet with people across multiple functions of the company while engaging in technical & non-technical discussions & challenges
  • Coding Challenge
  • Architecture / Design Challenge
  • Project Discussion
  • Two non-technical, discussion-based interviews
