JOB DESCRIPTION

Loopio is a workplace that unleashes learning & growth opportunities for our Loopers. We provide autonomous, challenging work that allows each employee to master their craft. We attract and retain people who are naturally curious, have grit and are eager to grow and build their careers. At Loopio, we genuinely support each other, because true success comes from working as #oneteam.

Loopio is looking to add a Product Designer to join the Projects team. This Agile team’s mandate is to enable our users to collaborate and quickly create effective responses that lead to winning new business opportunities.

About the Role

As a Product Designer on our small-but-mighty Loopio Design team, the opportunity to make a major impact is yours for the taking.

  • In addition to being the ambassador of both the Design team and of the customer within your own Agile team, you will contribute to the expansion and evangelization of our design system, Loopui — leveraged by every designer and developer at Loopio.
  • You will directly and indirectly impact all corners of the product and our customers’ experiences by way of close collaboration and candid critiques with your peer designers.
  • You will partner with Product Management and Engineering leaders and play a critical role in defining the product roadmap and prioritizing requirements for releases.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Be deeply involved in all aspects of product development and delivery from early-stage designs through to hands-on testing and implementation
  • Study and solve complex user problems by exploring a wide breadth of ideas and converging on solutions using a strategic blend of user research, data, peer feedback, and professional intuition
  • Design and confidently conduct UX research using a thoughtful blend of generative and evaluative mixed methods
  • Leverage user data from digital experience analytic tools to inform your designs
  • Track and own the performance of your designs post-launch and optimize
  • Lead design discussions with your Agile team, design peers, other Loopers, and even customers to effectively solve user problems with solutions that are innovative, effective, and technically feasible
  • Provide peer mentoring and coaching
  • Advocate for design thinking throughout the entire organization, shaping and living our design culture at Loopio

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • Working knowledge of the end-to-end design process; you can develop and leverage UX research, user flow diagrams, journey mapping, wireframing, prototyping, usability testing, and high-fidelity visuals to achieve human-centred design solutions
  • Proficiency in interaction design: you have a passion coupled with extensive experience of tackling complex design problems
  • UI design abilities: you have a solid grasp of how to apply concepts of space, layout, visual hierarchy and affordance to digital user interfaces
  • Holistic thinking: you think in systems and can anticipate the impacts of any one solution upon the entire platform and the holistic user experience
  • Persuasive communication: you can clearly express complex concepts and confidently share the ‘why’ behind your design decisions
  • Facilitation skills to ensure everyone on your team understands the full context of a problem, opportunity, or solution with a strong shared understanding
  • Curious, growth mindset: you humbly see critical feedback as a gift.

Where You'll Work

  • Loopio is a remote-first workplace because we recognize the advantages of working flexibly. We have two Hub Regions, which means that employees live and work within a 300 KM radius of Toronto (within Ontario) or Vancouver (within British Columbia) and work within regular business hours in their timezone.
  • Loopio’s office headquarters are located in Toronto’s vibrant Kensington Market. Ontario Loopers have the option to work in the office (when it’s safe to do so) or from home, whatever works best for you! Loopio does not have a Vancouver office space and BC Loopers will work remotely from home.
  • You’ll collaborate with your teams virtually (we’re just a Zoom call away!) and have established core sync hours and focus time during the workday to enable us to work smarter together

Why You'll Love Working at Loopio

  • Your manager supports your development by providing ongoing feedback and regular 1-on-1s
  • You have tons of autonomy and responsibility: this role provides an opportunity to try new things and push creative boundaries
  • You’ll learn more than you thought was possible; our team is obsessed with personal and professional growth (every Looper receives a professional mastery allowance each year)
  • You’ll be set up to work remotely with a MacBook laptop, a monthly phone and internet allowance, and a work-from-home budget to help get your home office all set up!
  • Join us in quarterly company celebrations and company-wide annual retreat (it’s virtual until we can meet in person again) to celebrate the big wins and milestones as #oneteam!
  • You’ll be joining a culture that has thoughtfully built out opportunities for connections in a remote first environment.
  • We have Employee Resource Groups, House Teams (curious? ask us about it!), virtual yoga, cooking classes and many more moments for us to have fun and learn together!
  • You’ll be a part of an award-winning workplace and one of Canada’s fastest growing companies with ample opportunity to make a big impact here!

Loopio is an equal opportunity employer that is deeply committed to building equitable workplaces that are diverse and inclusive. We actively encourage candidates from all backgrounds to consider us as a future employer. Please contact Yeniffer, Senior Manager of Talent Experience (work@loopio.com) should you require accommodations at any point during our virtual interview process.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

Product Designer: 4 rounds of interviews ( 25 / 60/ 60/ 90 mins)

  1. Preliminary Interview - 25 minutes - with Talent Partner
  2. Portfolio Review - 60 minutes - with 2 Senior members on the Design Team.

Format: Candidates to prepare 2 case studies from their portfolio that showcases their work and its impact, also make sure to share a little about their background and how they think about and approach design. Along with a demonstration of their hard skills (UX research, concept exploration, interaction design, visual design, etc.), we seek to understand their mindset and how they approach tackling design challenges, including:

    • Incorporating empathy and user understanding
    • Awareness of broader business context for the work
    • How you overcome inevitable challenges and obstacles
    • How you generate ideas and design directions
    • Your relationship to other team members How you persuade others of the soundness of your decisions
    • Please plan on about 40 minutes of presentation and then 15 minutes for discussion and questions afterwards.
  1. (Option) Heuristics Evaluation OR Whiteboard Design Challenge - 60 minutes - with 2 Senior members on the Design Team

Option 1 - Conduct a whiteboard design challenge

Format: The interview team will present you with a design problem in the meeting and will ask you to walk them through your approach. They will invite you to a remote whiteboarding tool to guide them through your problem-solving process and solution. Please note that you are not expected to put any pre-work into this, and we will not use your work from this exercise.

Option 2 - Heuristic evaluation (max 3 hours prep time)

Format: You will do a maximum 3hrs homework to prepare a heuristic evaluation on a website provided by the interviews. You will put together a short presentation on your findings to share with the team on a zoom call. The presentation will be followed by a short design jam to explore improvements. Please note that you are to put no more than 3 hours pre-work into this, and we will not use your work from this exercise.

    • Details will be shared upon selecting Heuristics Evaluation

We’re offering these options because some candidates are comfortable with a no-prep activity while others prefer the opportunity to prep. We want you to be comfortable, so that we can have a productive conversation.

The whiteboard challenge topic will be different from the heuristic evaluation topic.

  1. Final Interview (Culture and Values) - 90 minutes - with a Engineering Manager and People Partner (HR)
