JOB DESCRIPTION

A bit about us

Roll20 is a free, community-based tabletop gaming software dedicated to bringing players together regardless of distance, experience, gaming system or hardware. We strive to lessen the technical burden on the participants, facilitate the formation of new gaming groups, and to make barriers to entry as few as possible when gathering around a table for camaraderie. To accomplish these goals we seek to create a service that is sustainable and will be a resource to the gaming community as long as it is needed.

The Challenge

Our 9 million players and the growing popularity of tabletop games have made Roll20 such an amazing success. Roll20 has developed a portfolio of products that have accelerated a niche hobby into the mainstream. Moving forward, there are so many directions we can take. We believe that in order to continue enhancing our platform and delivering value to our community, we need leaders who are ready to drive key decisions and product strategy.

The Opportunity

Roll20 is looking for a product manager with experience driving high-impact initiatives through cross-functional collaboration. Someone who is able to seamlessly flow between high-level strategic planning and day-to-day project execution. Through strong qualitative and quantitative data points, this Sr. Product Manager will build and execute an outcome-driven roadmap that will deliver value to more than 9 million players.

The Skill Set

  • Extensive experience as a Product Manager in a SaaS company with a track record of delivering software with high business impact.
  • Experience in the full product lifecycle from concept to scale for large initiatives.
  • Experience with, and ability to educate team members on, agile development. Understanding of how to track team health metrics such as velocity, burndown, release quality - and understand why those metrics are important.
  • Experience building, prioritizing, presenting, and maintaining product roadmaps.
  • Understanding of data analytics and how to establish and track qualitative and quantitative data points to guide key decisions and product strategy.
  • Ability to develop others to expand their knowledge and skills around product management and iterative development.

Within 1 month you'll:

  • Complete orientation, begin to learn the product, and learn Roll20’s values.
  • Become familiar with the charters of each cross functional team and their current roadmaps
  • Become familiar with our tech stack and the tools available to you as a product manager.
  • Meet and establish relationships with critical team members and key stakeholders across the organization

Within 3 months you'll:

  • Transition into product owner role of two cross functional product teams.
  • Work with ops and business intelligence teams to understand data tech stack, current SOOs and KPIs, and how the current initiatives impact those measurements.
  • Gain broader understanding of the industry and influences that impact our product.
  • Build relationships with Development, Marketing, and UX Design to support collaborations over Product tactics and strategies.
  • Drives the Product Requirements Documentation process across the Product function and Prioritized Roadmap in multiple formats.
  • Launch a product feature from start to end as the primary owner.

Within 6 months you'll:

  • Collaborate with engineering to track velocity and accuracy of engineering estimates and put in place a feedback process for learning and improving team execution.
  • Own executive reporting for all of your cross functional teams; report on the outcomes of launches and discuss how well goals and hypotheses were met, and what learnings to use in the next launch
  • Coach, develop, and mentor product managers and associate product managers as their direct supervisor.
  • Leverage data to track velocity and accuracy and improve future execution.
  • Have stronger familiarity with our product and TTRPGs and be able to intuitively understand the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges to Roll20 as a platform.

Benefits

Roll20 staff, via coordination with Ritsuko Lifts LLC, are guided by company values that encourage diversity and inclusiveness. In line with company values, we provide competitive salaries and solid benefit packages, including health insurance, group life and personal accident insurance, short-term disability/long-term disability coverage, optional worksite insurance coverage, an employee assistance program, and a 401k with employer matching. We ensure staff have at least 3 weeks of vacation time away, in addition to sick leave, and flexible scheduling. We are a truly remote workplace (although we hope to get everyone together for a full company retreat once seeing people IRL is a safe thing again) and include equipment allowances for our staff to cultivate a functional working-from-home experience. We encourage applicants with non-traditional backgrounds to apply.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

Our hiring process will consist of up to 3 interviews.

The first is an asynchronous video interview - we give you the questions and a link to where you can record your answers. We believe this approach gives candidates more time to prepare, flexibility, and the best chance to present.

The second is a 60m panel interview where you would meet with some of our Product team. We ask a series of situational, technical, and behavioral questions to better understand your experience and skills.

Finally, we conduct a 60m values interview with a couple members of our executive team. Here we focus on behavioral questions that give you an opportunity to show us what you bring to our culture and workplace.

DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION

At Roll20 we strive to ensure that our people have the resources and support they need to thrive. We especially have a strong focus on working in sensible and sustainable ways. We enable this through generous benefits, unlimited PTO, flexible schedules, and accelerated compensation review cycles (every 9 months). We've also put resources and structures in place to help us continuously improve diversity, equity, and inclusion both internally and within our community. We have a position dedicated to driving these efforts (Director of Inclusion) and also a social justice expert on our advisory board to keep us focused. We look for partners to help us succeed in these areas and follow the lead of marginalized voices.
